Golden Years Book Club

The Golden Years Book Club brings together seniors who share a passion for reading and thoughtful discussion. Each month, we select a new book to read and gather to share our thoughts, perspectives, and insights in a warm, welcoming environment.

Benefits of Book Clubs for Seniors

  • Cognitive Stimulation: Engaging with literature keeps the mind active
  • Social Connection: Regular meaningful interactions with peers
  • Exposure to New Ideas: Discover different perspectives and worldviews
  • Emotional Expression: Safe space to discuss feelings evoked by literature
  • Continued Learning: Explore diverse topics and historical periods

Our Reading Philosophy

We believe reading should be enjoyable, not a chore. Our book selections embrace these principles:

  • Diverse genres to keep things interesting (fiction, memoirs, historical, etc.)
  • Manageable reading lengths considering vision and attention spans
  • Mix of classic literature and contemporary works
  • Books with larger print editions or audio versions available
  • Themes relevant to senior experiences and broader human conditions

Monthly Meetings

Our book club meets on the second Tuesday of each month from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM at the Main Street Library in the Community Room. Each meeting includes:

  • Facilitated discussion about the month’s book
  • Light refreshments
  • Preview of next month’s selection
  • Optional social time after the formal discussion

Recent and Upcoming Selections

Some of our recent and upcoming books include:

  • “The Thursday Murder Club” by Richard Osman
  • “The Midnight Library” by Matt Haig
  • “Olive, Again” by Elizabeth Strout
  • “The Dutch House” by Ann Patchett
  • “The Lincoln Highway” by Amor Towles

Supporting Access to Books

We strive to make participation accessible to all seniors by:

  • Partnering with the library for multiple copy availability
